We live in a climate where an ice shield is a must and required by local codes. The normal code is to install an ice shield at the eaves to a point 24” past the inside warm wall line. Some communities require that ice shield be installed in the valleys and we recommend it.
It is vital for the contractor to review your attic ventilation prior to any roofing work. It is desirable to achieve a balanced exhaust and intake ratio to keep the attic cooler and to help mold from forming. The desired ratio is 60% intake and 40% exhaust. Often contractors don’t think about insulation baffles but without the proper amount installed the venting will never work properly.
The most common shingle installed today is a lightweight laminated shingle that has a lifetime material warranty from the manufacturer’s. You can upgrade to a heavyweight laminated shingle or super heavyweight decorator shingles. There is also Cedar shake or imitation slate available.
Once we get all the signed authorizations back the job is set up in our system. It then goes into our pipeline for scheduling. The salesman will keep our customers updated when their project is scheduled. Our crews will start by tarping and protecting the area around the home. We do request that the homeowner moves all patio furniture, grills, and any other item that may get damaged to a safe distance from the home. Depending on how large or cut up a house is the work will take between two to five days on a typical single-family home. A final inspection is made by our superintendents.
